Methods of prophylaxis and management of complications following wisdom tooth extraction
Main Article Content
Abstract
The extraction of wisdom teeth is considered a routine surgical intervention for the dentist, and the complications associated with them are frequent. Complication rates following the extraction of wisdom teeth range from 4.6% to 30.9% with an average of approximately 10%. The incidence of these complications varies depending on local and general factors, the age and general health of the patient, as well as the experience of the operator. Postoperative complications caused by wisdom molar extraction can be reduced by a thorough clinical and radiological examination during the preoperative stage and by following the principles of extraction in correlation with the local and general status of the patient. The best way to solve the accidents and complications associated with the surgical extraction of the wisdom tooth is prevention.
